Dispatch | Italy - A Tour Through Modena

We had the opportunity to tour the Museo Ducati in Bologna, and learned a lot about the 90-year history of the legendary motorcycle company. Ducati was started in 1926 by Antonio Cavalieri and his three sons, but it wasn't until the 1960's that their legend was cemented, after they built the fastest 250 cc bike then available. They would go on to produce large-displacement V-twin motorcycles, and in the early 70s trademarked their desmodromic valve design. The desmodromic valve-train allowed for a higher level of performance that would bring Ducati to new heights.

The museum was a wonderful study on Ducati brand, both on the road and on the racetrack. Scroll down to see more pics from our tour of the museum and the rest of our trip to Modena.

Of course, no trip to Italy would be complete without a Ferrari. We were lucky enough to be able to have some time with the Ferrari F430. In our opinion, a great update from the Ferrari 360. The F430 incorporates so many pieces of Ferrari's rich history, including the Enzo's tail lights and the front bumper that is straight off of the 250 TR61 Le Mans cars of Phil Hill. With it's 4.3L V8 engine, the F430 can go 0 to 62 in 3.9 seconds, and tops out at over 196 mph.

To finish off the evening, we ate at Osteria Francescana. Earning 3 stars from the Michelin Guide and ranked as the world's best restaurant in the 'World's 50 Best Restaurants', it was an evening well spent, and the food and wine was excellent. One of the many highlights of the meal was the tagliatelle with hand-cut ragu. Or maybe it was the mini tortellini in capon broth. One thing is for sure- everything we ate was absolutely mind blowing and one of the best meals we've ever had.

The next morning we stopped by a cafe and enjoyed a hearty breakfast, before setting out to enjoy the sights and sounds of the area and explore the nearby vineyards.
