For anglers, our central location in a region famous for large wild trout—browns and rainbows—is highlighted by the home waters of the Palena; where you can wade and float gin-clear water right out the front door. These special, super-charged trout thrive in the glacial waters of the myriad of lakes, rivers, and streams all over this slice of Patagonia, providing anglers with a diversity of experiences. Your professional guides know each stretch of river you will fish, and they will put you on the best fishing water at the time of your trip. 

Rio Palena Lodge is located in a prime spot for guests to experience the world-renown whitewater rafting on the Futaleufu River. Those looking for a more mellow experience on the water can paddle board on the lazy river sections out the lodge’s back door. Hit the trails with our fleet of mountain bikes, or enjoy the simple pleasures of a waterfall hike. No matter your fancy, there is truly no better place to experience rugged Patagonia at its most stunning.

Itinerary

Day 1

• Fly to Alto Palena or Chaiten after breakfast*
• Greeting and transfer to the lodge from either Alto Palena or Chaiten. 
• Settle in and wade fish in front of the lodge
• Return to the Lodge to sip pisco sours and have aprés
• Enjoy a chef prepared dinner paired with Eleven-selected wines
• After dinner drinks at the lodge

Day 2-3: Full Days of Fishing 

• Homemade breakfast each morning with flexible fishing start times
• Fish the rivers, lakes and streams that are fishing best at the time of your trip 
• Work on your casting technique with our guides
• Enjoy leisurely stream-side lunches paired with vino tinto
• Float fish the local rivers and walk and wade from the lodge front door

Day 4: Departure

• Fly to Santiago (8-10 hour flight from US)
• Catch a Flight to Puerto Montt (1 hour, 45 minutes) 
• Take a Flight to Chaiten (35 minutes)
• Drive to Rio Palena Lodge (3 hours)

Charter Route

• Fly to Santiago (8 - 10 hour flight from US)
• Catch a Flight to Puerto Montt (1 hour, 45 minutes)
• Charter Cessna Grand Caravan to Palena Airfield (1 hour, 15 minutes)
• Drive to Rio Palena Lodge (20 minutes)

In the event that travel is prevented due to COVID-19, guests shall be eligible for a full refund or rescheduled hunt date. Otherwise, cancellations must be made within 24 hours of purchasing (reserving) your Signature Expedition as space extremely is limited.
