Barber Profile | John Mellino
Posted by Boston Outfitters on

We’re proud to introduce our newest barber joining us at our Boston Outfitters location. John has been a loyal customer of ours for quite some time now, and it just made sense to add his talent to our ever-growing team. A passionate musician and skilled craftsman, John views styling hair as a chance to make a difference in people’s lives.

We took a moment to sit down with John before his first day and hear about what excites him to be part of our team.

Q: Why did you become a barber?

A: After finishing high school, I traveled the country for 5 or so years performing music, and during this time I cut hair for friends and other acts on the road. After coming home, I worked for some time for a general contractor but wasn't really happy with what I was doing. After thinking it over, it only seemed fitting to build a career on something I did for fun and truly enjoyed.

Q: What do you like most about being a barber?

A: What I enjoy most about being a barber is making people feel good about the way they look. A great haircut can make all the difference in someone's confidence and how they are viewed by others. At the end of the day, all I want is to give the client the best fitting cut for their personal style and face, and help them figure out what is the overall most complimentary look for them.

Q: When you’re not cutting hair what do you like to do?

A: When I am not cutting hair, I split my time between my band CONTACT and doing some crafts such as making industrial style lighting.

Q: What is your favorite food?

A: Having grown up in New England and in an Italian household, I have a deep love for seafood of all kinds, but my favorite meal hands down is Seafood Fra Diavolo.

Q: What drew you to Ball and Buck?

A: Once upon a time, I was actually a customer at Ball and Buck getting my hair cut. Since then, it's all just kind of fallen into place.

Q: Do you have a favorite product or hair recommendation?

A: My hair recommendations vary from client to client, but like I said, having been a client at Ball and Buck way before actually becoming a barber I have used Imperial and love it.
