The Barn/Studio was completed in 2016. I am truly a barn fanatic, so I took a lot of inspiration from my years of living in New England, and admiring thousands of classic barns. The structure was designed by a great architect friend of mine, John Paul Dunn of John Paul Dunn Studios. He also designed the renovation of my main residence, so he truly had an intimate knowledge of my preferred aesthetics.
We both agreed the barn needed to compliment the house, but also be different enough as to avoid the two structures looking monolithic on our very modest lot. We used a weathering stained, vertical cedar siding to emulate a traditional New England Barn. The black framed windows were selected to match the main house, and contrast the brown cedar siding. All the windows in the structure are awning styling windows, which allows the windows to remain open, even during heavy rain.
